Christmas for Our Missionaries

As Christmas approaches, we want to bless our global Go partners with a special gift. During the month of November, you can visit the table in our lobby and give to any of our global missionaries. You can also give online on Pushpay by giving to Missions and writing "Christmas" in the memo line. Please email go@lifeatcrossroads.org with any questions.

Union Rescue Mission

We need volunteers to bake Christmas cookies for the Union Rescue Mission's annual Christmas Party to the men enrolled in The Christian Life Discipleship program. Go Partner Spotlight

For the month of November, we are honored to highlight John and Holly Reed, members of Crossroads, and their ministry with AWANA Lifeline. John serves as the primary point of contact for our Malachi Dads ministry to the inmates of Pitchess Detention Center. He helps coordinate and teach Bible studies to the men there, showing them what it means to be in a relationship with God and how to be a godly parent. AWANA Lifeline’s hope and goal is to see families restored, first with God, and secondly with each other so that the next generation will walk in obedience to the Lord.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

Kingdom Woman Conference

Women of Crossroads, please join us on January 26 & 27 for this year's Kingdom Woman Conference featuring our guest speaker, Chrystal Evans-Hurst, with worship being led by Mandie Pinto-Czarnecki. She reaches a wide audience speaking at conferences, sharing on her blog, Chrystal's Chronicles, writing for Proverbs 31 Ministries, and by teaching and leading women in her home church. ELEVATE MINISTRY

Sr. High Host Home - Break for Thanksgiving

Elevate Surf Club: Third Saturday in December, $5 – Surf Club is for students who can surf or who want to learn. We meet outside the church office at 8:00 a.m. We check the surf report, and then head out to the beach with the gnarliest waves! You need to bring $5, a wetsuit, a board, and money for food. If you don’t have a board, we have a few to lend. Surf Club usually returns around 6:30 p.m. Hey parents, we need drivers if you want to join us!

Elevate Christmas Fundraiser

For six weeks, beginning November 19 until December 24, Elevate will be raising funds for the new Elevate Warehouse.  Rather than simply raising money, we have decided to give our church body the ability to donate directly to items that will be used in our new space.  There will be a Christmas tree set up in the lobby decorated with all the items or “ornaments” needed for our space.  Everything from chairs to lights, board games to group games, and bar stools to lockers! You can browse the tree, locate the dollar amount for this item on the back of the “ornament” and decide what you would like to gift.  Once you have decided, you can take the “ornament” off the tree and purchase it in the lobby.

TEN

Ten is a mission we launched on our ten-year anniversary, when the Crossroads family, by God's grace, commits to giving our lives away in three ways. First, is by planting ten healthy Bible-teaching churches. Second, is to build out and pay off the Valencia Crossroads' main campus within the next ten years. Last, is to identify, select, and financially underwrite the cost to send ten teenage orphans to the Master's University. Join us. Together, we can invest in the future today by making your check out to TEN or donating online at www.lifeatcrossroads.info. All contributions to Ten are tax-deductible under IRS guidelines.

Chrystal co-authored the best-selling book, Kingdom Woman, with her father, Dr. Tony Evans. GO MINISTRY

Fingers of God Ministry

Go on a mission locally! In addition to visiting Convalescent Homes, Fingers of God now visits the Santa Clarita Post Acute Hospital on Newhall Road (across from Savía). This is a totally unique and amazing opportunity to witness to the ailing unprivileged who need to hear the Good News of Christ’s salvation. We focus on those who are bedridden and lonely, who may not have another chance to hear the Word.

Maybe God is calling on you to join this “last chance” ministry every Saturday at 10:00 AM. If so, please contact Daniele Kosanke at dbkosanke@aol.com or (661) 310-4922.

Go Partner Spotlight

Crossroads is honored to partner with Kimmy Iverson and she serves as our Global Partner Spotlight for the month of September. Kimmy is a missionary with Pioneers in an East Asia country where she is currently in language study and building relationships with the young people there through youth group and coaching basketball, using sports to open the doors for an opportunity to share the Gospel.

Looking Ahead

The Elders are always looking to the future to care for Crossroads as we continue to mature as a Church. Over the next months, we will be transitioning from Savia to our permanent location, adding new ministry opportunities. Also, with the news that Steve Stark, our Church Administrator and his wife, Lesly, are looking to retire and relocate to Texas next year, to be closer to their kids, the Elders are in the process of opening an Executive Pastor position. This position will help to carry the ever-increasing leadership load at Crossroads. Pray with the Elders for God to raise up the right man for this critical position at Crossroads. Exciting days are ahead as we follow Him.

How do you handle suffering?

Today I was impressed by something Winston Churchill reportedly said, “Nothing is more exciting in life than being shot at without result.”

I can only imagine the adrenaline rush of barely escaping death or severe injury as he described. As I thought about that statement though, it made me also wonder what happens when life hits us and we were not able to dodge the bullet of suffering?

In times like these, I think it is easy to feel isolated and alone as though no one else is having times of difficulty. How do we as Christians find hope to endure the dark valleys of life?

Notice what Jesus says in Rev. 2:9-10 NLT

I know about your suffering and your poverty—but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan. Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.”

What comforting words we have in “I know.” Jesus KNOWS! He is not a distant God, but one who is intimately aware of all that is going on in our lives.

Notice that Jesus also does not sugar coat the message for the believers in Smyrna who are enduring great suffering for their faith. Jesus says, “Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer.” He didn’t tell them that their suffering was over to them a false hope. Instead, he said, don’t be afraid when the suffering continues. In some ways, for them, the worst was yet to come.

Why can these believers continue in faithfulness in spite of their great anguish? Notice the last sentence, “If you remain faithful, even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.”

The readers could be encouraged by the reminder that Jesus knows their suffering and the promise that faithful obedience even to death will not be forgotten, but rewarded!

This morning then, I was encouraged by the reminder that Jesus knows all that is going on my life today and every day. In addition, I need not fear when difficulties come or when they even get worse. I simply have to trust God, remain faithful, and follow him regardless of what happens.  I should do all of this as I am encouraged by his promises to reward such effort.

Father, thank you for shooting straight with us. We all will suffer, some more than others. You are not surprised by this. You do not tell us to ignore such things, but that we should accept them and remain faithful to you knowing that one day you will reward the life of endurance.

GO MINISTRY

Our GO Spotlight this month is John and Ramie Book, who serve on the leadership of the Cru Ministry at UCLA. Their mission is to share Christ with the students of the university. Their team is also very intentional in making disciples, and helping students lead Bible study groups all around the UCLA area. Whether on the campus, in the dorm, or in housing out in town, the Books are fulfilling the Great Commission by making disciples of the students of UCLA.

We would like to welcome our new Go Partners, Elijah and Allison Kellogg, along with their daughter Tyler. Elijah and Alli are with OMF/Global Grace Missionaries and will be working in Southeast Asia among a vastly unreached people group called the Shan-Tai. There are nearly seven million Shan people in existence today, with less than 1% reached for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Elijah and Alli will be living among the Shan, working long-term to make disciples of Jesus and plant house-based churches within the Shan culture and language. Please be in prayer for the Kelloggs in the following ways during their first term on the field:

  • Pray for a smooth and fruitful transition into a new language, culture, and home.
  • Pray for Jesus' love and power to penetrate the hearts of the Shan, who do not know Him.
  • Pray for God to free the Shan people from their idols, their oppressors and their crippling socioeconomic issues through our work and teaching.

GO MINISTRY

Our Go Spotlight this month is John and Ramie Book, who serve on the leadership of Cru Ministry at UCLA. Their mission is to share Christ with the students of UCLA. Their team is also very intentional in making disciples. They also help students lead Bible Study groups all around the UCLA area. Whether on or off campus or in the dorm, the Books are fulfilling the Great Commission by making disciples of the students.

Please be in prayer for the Kellogg's in the following ways during their first term on the field:

  • Pray for a smooth and fruitful transition into a new language, culture, and home
  • Pray for Jesus' love and power to penetrate the hearts of the Shan, who do not know Him
  • Pray for God to free the Shan people from their idols, their oppressors and their crippling socioeconomic issues through our work and teaching

ELEVATE MINISTRY

Jr. High Host Home - Swihart Home 23143 Vista Delgado, Valencia

Elevate Surf Club: Third Saturday in September, $5 – Surf Club is for students who can surf or who want to learn. We meet outside the church office at 8:00 a.m. We check the surf report, and then head out to the beach with the gnarliest waves! You need to bring $5, a wet suit, a board, and money for food. If you don’t have a board, we have a few to lend. Surf Club usually returns around 6:30 p.m. Hey parents, we need drivers if you want to join us!

COLLEGE MINISTRY

College Ministry kicks off on Thursday, August 31st. Come hungry! We’re having a cookout followed by some time of worship and prayer for the upcoming semester.

WORSHIP MINISTRY

We are looking for talented women and men with a strong desire to serve the Lord with their gifts.  For info check out the Worship Ministry cart in the lobby, email our Worship Director at gclark@lifeatcrossroads, or visit www.lifeatcrossroads.org/worship.

Join us. Together, we can invest in the future today by making your check out to TEN or donating online at lifeatcrossroads.org/give. All contributions to Ten are tax-deductible under IRS guidelines.
